Daniel Lichti, baritone

Daniel Lichti is one of Canada’s finest concert and oratorio singers, heard throughout North American, Europe, Japan and Argentina.

In 2005, Mr. Lichti toured Argentina in joint recitals and master classes with soprano Lesley Andrew. He made his debut at the Schlern International music Festival in Italy, where he performed lieder by Hugo Wolf and taught young singers from around the world. He returned to the Shanandoah Valley Bach Festival in Virginia to perform Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 and Vier Ernste Gesange by Brahms. He also performed a recital and in the St. Matthew Passion at the Grand River Baroque Festival.

Bach’s monumental Mass in B Minor figures large this season with performances with the Elora Festival Singers, Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra, the Vancouver Chamber Choir, and with the Bach Choir and Orchestra of the Bethlehem Bach Festival. Mr. Lichti returns to Calgary for Mozart’s Requiem, and performs Bach’s Johannes Passion with the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir and the Ottawa Bach Choir. He sings Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius for the Richard Eaton Singers of Edmonton, Haydn’s Die Schopfung in Osaka, Japan, and Schubert’s Die Winterreise for York University in the inaugural season of its new Concert Hall.

Mr. Lichti’s discography includes Songs of Hugo Wolf, Bach Cantatas and the Mass in B Minor with the Bach Choir of Bethlehem, Sony’s The Gift of the Messiah, and lieder by Schubert, Schumann, and Brahms with pianist Janina Fialkowska on the Opening Day label. A Baroque recording with the American early music ensemble, Olde Friends, was just released by Centaur Records; and a new release by Dreaminprogress Productions features songs by Rodgers, Hammerstein and Hart with soprano Lesley Andrew. Daniel Lichti has been an associate professor of voice at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario since 1998.
