WHAT Motivates Our Artists
We cannot underestimate the impact of a great artist on a small community.
Since 1993, the Piano Six Foundation (operating as Piano Six and Piano Plus) has brought Canada's finest classical musicians to communities throughout the country in which opportunities to experience the magic of live performances at an affordable cost are limited or simply non-existent. During its first ten years, six renowned pianists – Janina Fialkowska, Jon Kimura Parker, Angela Cheng, Andre Laplante, Angela Hewitt, and Marc-Andre Hamelin – carried the beauty of classical music, and their own passions for performing and the music itself, to more than 100 small and/or remote communities across the length and width of Canada.
The positive feedback indicates that from Manitoulin Island to southern Alberta, rural Quebec to Nunavut, the presence of the artists sparks excitement and curiosity, even before they play a note. Audiences range from students and teachers to businessmen, homemakers, and farmers, often reaching people who have never heard classical music live.

"The concert with Jon Kimura Parker was the highlight of our season. Mr. Parker's skill and rapport with the audience made for an unforgettable evening. The children who came to the master class the next day had a tremendous opportunity to learn from one for the world's best concert pianists. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive."
